How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

I have a hard time believing that a Armed Service man would not obey what he was trained to do. Since it did the Sergeant Major did exactly what he should have done. He took charge of the situation and escorted the Marine out of the store to deal with the infraction.
The mother was stupid, he is no longer her son first. He like all other service men and women belong to the government first. Their duty is to their oath that we all take. That is just the way it is deal with it.
To answer the last question, yes at the very least their will be extra duty in the Marines future. Most likely a letter of correction in his permanent file that will cling to his back for the rest of his career. I will also say he does deserve it. The junior officer should have once attempted to correct the superior office once they are no longer in a "so public place/area" . Once the correction had been made and no attempt by the other to comply with a lawful correction, he should have just reported it to his chain of command and moved on.

Bahaha kid should lose a stripe if he even has one and take pay for a few months that's what they did when we were at Pendleton.

First are the active duty in performance of their duties (i.e. OOD, etc). Second, if they are civilians and no signs posted well.....Lastly, Respect show this and be tactful when addressing the issue

This is too stupid to be real. Marines in my experience respect rank especially as an e-1 to e-3. That SgtMaj should smoke the piss out of both of those idiots

PFC Ronald Maddox Unfortunately it was real and the SgtMaj did take them both out for some refreshing counseling. I've seen these types of incidents throughout my 37 year career from one service branch to another. You'll have this in isolated situations and they are usually handle quicky and swiftly by the immediate leadership on the ground or in the area. I've had to counsel a few soldiers and service members myself over the years and some as far as reading them their Article 31 Rights! That's why we have policies, regulations, and the UCMJ. That's why their are leaders at each every level constantly working on discipline within the ranks! Crap happens!

Shouldve just taken the advice. Maybe he was tryin to act tough for his mom but that backfired hard. I'd have him cut the grass with scissors for a month if I had rank above him

Stationed in Okinawa in the early 80's it's not surprising sometimes to see a Marine lose composer, especially around family, not now, no military bs please. But the Marine is a Marine 24/7 , right ,wrong , good bad or ugly, that is the commitment. What sounds to me that sparked all of this is the two going head to head at one another, this would make any branch of the service look bad. Marine would have complied ,even if he was reminded by someone lower rank, and removed his cover, nothing would have came of this. Seen Marines continue to jog when reveille was broadcasting loud across the base. Talk about stirring up some emotions when this occurs, "oh my"!!... This was a situation easily avoided. I would have jumped that Marine myself, but not to a point of laying my hands on him, continued being belligerent ask for his ID, and reported the incident to his commanding officer, and trust me, that a bit of news no commanding officer wants to hear.

LCpl Bob Burnett Forget about the fact that other Marines can't believe one of their own could lose their cool and the basic question is. Did the the Junior Officer handle himself correctly and did the SgtMaj due the same (or) could it have been handled differently in your opinion? That is the basic question - sorry it wasn't clear and thanks for asking Bob!

Office Hours in the works. Disrespect toward the Officer. Read the UCMJ

I have been out almost thirty years and yes, I have seen the calibre of recruits (with attitude ) that were coming in. They were calling their mommies to call their their congressmen as to how they have been treated horribly. The new Corps I supposed, but the bottom line is that they couldn't suck it up. That young Marine in question needs to be put in his place and take the consequences. I don't care if he was having a bad day that day. Semper fi, do or die.
