How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?

NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!

RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?

THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015

CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."

I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks

If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"

RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.

A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

SgtMaj only took him by the collar, if I would haberdashery been there he would have got a boot up his ass. Mommy would very embarrested mommy needs to take care og Mrine maybe they should send him to boot camp you know the WMs boot camp. Not because WOMEN MARINES are easier maybe they could teach how not to depend on mommy. Cuz they will kick his ass.

Iam retired from military, served 28 years ten marines eighteen officer..I was in the navy exchange when a young marine and navy lt.junior grade, got into a heated pissing contest. There were very young children near by.NO ONE seemed to want to stop the situation.I shouted in my command voice[ATTENTIONHUT] Ithen saw a LTcommander standing by and said ''sirplease take control of this situation''] he took both men outside. The kids nearby were crying and the check out lady said she was so scared. I don't know know why the men were yelling at each other, nor do I care I just felt like someone needed to restore calm..

The enlisted marine was out of order . he should have obeyed and moved on.The sgtmaj was correct and he saved the young marines career.

Timothy Dobbs I have to agree. I believe calling him out in frontt of his Mother escalated the situation. I would have waited and pulled over outside the MCX, ID myself and ask that he remember to not put his cover on before he leaves the building - that may have avoided the whole situation. The other thing that I've done in the past when I see a service member with their cover on is I just motion to them with my hand above my head removing s fictitious cover off my head - that works great and they realize they still have it on. Mistakes are made like this periodcially with all services - seen it alot down range more often then you'd like to believe, but it happened and we corrected it.

I think the Junior Officer was correct in correcting the young Marine. The young Marines response was wrong, doesn't matter if they were junior enlisted or officer. The professionalism wad not there. The E9 grabbing and escorting him out I did not have a problem with. The mother is the one I had a problem with.

Young Marine- Article 15 would have been appropriate for disrespect to the officer and not following uniform regulations.
Junior Officer- OK up to the point it turned into a shouting match. Don't get into a shouting match, fast track the young Marine to an Article 15. He must own up to his actions that did not set a positive example on how to handle the situation.

Sgt Major- took charge and defused the situation in a manner that insured that he would not be miss quoted, miss understood or ignored. Escorting the young Marine out of the MCX for a counseling session defused the situation further. He must support Article 15 against young Marine while reminding the junior officer of his conduct and his lack of responsibility to maintain control and to set a positive example is such situations.

Marine's Mother- stay out of Marine business. He is still your son, but he earned the title of Marine and he is currently "owned" by the Marines Corps. Cut the apron strings and realize that your conduct reinforces your son's negative punk like behavior.

So I will make an assumption that everyone was in uniform. No way shape of former should that junior enlisted respond that way to anyone. Not even a civilian, especially if he new he was wrong. The junior officer must've thought he was a drill sergeant and lose his bearing in the MCX. Definitely not a place with families and children around, there is a time and place for everything. He should've got the name and rank and unit of that enlisted and handled it there. Lots of ways to handle that without being an ass hat about it. As for the SGM, no questions asked, he is always right even when he is wrong. That junior enlisted will have a nice few weeks to recalibrate his attitude on extra duty.

Gotta learn respect!!! If your told to remove your cover then remove it ( which he shouldn't have put on in the 1st place). If not consequences to come and I'm sure they did!!
