How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?

NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!

RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?

THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015

CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."

I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks

If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"

RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.

A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

I think the LT should have asked for his ID card and asked for the name of his commanding officer ... he is required to offer that info, regardless of who asks for it. Then report him to his CO. However, that being said, I find it hard to believe that any young man who has made it through Marine Basic would, first, not be aware that wearing cover inside while not bearing arms is a no-no, taboo, verboten, against the rules and the natural order of things. Second, for the same reason, I find it hard to believe he would respond as stated. But, an intereting story.

From my observation folks are very respectful in the MCX and my son was very cognizant of his surroundings. I don't things have loosened up such that a Lcpl or PFC would likely respond this way unless something had recently very much unhinged his brain.

I think the military needs to do a better job of teaching respect. Not just for others but for yourself. They know what is right and wrong yet so many times these days we see disrespect for customs and courtesy. This is from all ranks officer and enlisted. More discipline is needed all over and what we called policing our own, me and my friends would not have let one another do things like this.

Had a similar incident back in '60 when a 36yr gunny walked into sunday brunch with a 2nd LT the OD- sarge had herring bone utililities, boon dockers, and folded cover in his back pocket-- the LT dressed the sarge down about his uniform and started to write him up on charges- the sarge just told the LT to be sure to write it on soft paper so he could wipe his A-- with it, then walked off into the mess hall- NOW, HOW would you handle that-?-

Sounds like a salty ol' sarge who knew a green 2 Lt when he saw one. Regardless, he was out of line.

SGT (Join to see) Unfortunately for most, its true. There have been a lot of disbelievers, but not me since I've been in for 37 years this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to soldiers or service members losing their military bearing in one form or fashion. I don't care about whether you believe it or not, that is prerogative - the question is was handled properly. Could all the payers in this scenario have done something differently? That was the question. Your feedback Chris?

Absolutely there will be extra duty - respect the uniform and he knew his ranks if a marine who is his senior asks him to remove his cover then he removes it
