How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

I would've just walked up and asked him to remove his cover. Just keep it simple, no need to go ballistic!

I know the mother was only trying to protect her son.. But the son is now a Marine.. And she should at least respect that.. I'm also sure the boy knew he was in the wrong too.. Hope all goes well for the son.. Semper Fi Marine ..

The recruit was in the wrong and it was a Sergeant Majors job to enlighten him. He should have used some discretion and taken the recruit outside and then tore his ass up.

WWCD?
Reminds me of a story I read in a bio of Chesty Puller:
Chesty, at the time a Colonel or Brigadier perhaps, spotted a 2d Lt lording it over a private who was standing at attention saluting the butter-bar over and over.
Chesty asked the 2d Lt what was going on, to which he replied, "This private didn't salute me as required by military etiquette, so I'm reinforcing the correct behaviour with practice."
To this Chesty replied, "You are doing a good thing, Lt. However, according to military etiquette, isn't each and every salute offered to be returned accordingly?"
The 2d Lt gulped, and began returning each and every of the now rapidly accelerating pace of salutes being rendered by the private who now sported a you-know-what-eating grin!

You are required to remove the cover when it indoors. No matter the circumstances he could have set the cover down on the cashier's desk the counter finished his business retrieve discover and went outside you are a United States Marine you know the rules you are requested by fellow Marine to follow those rules never remove the cover you do not get into a shouting match in a public area you have no privileges you gave those up when you sign on the dotted line just because your mommy is there did not give you a right with a junior officer or a senior enlisted request that you remove the cover so therefore some extra duty is called for here the sergeant major was fully within his rights to dress both of you down in regards to your mother she had no business poking her nose into my business and protocol end of discussion you got that Marineplop

MSgt Alan Arnold
SSgt Tony Barnes. I agree with all you have said in one foolishly long sentence with no punctuation. If you plan on achieving higher rank, or if you are a civilian, learn how to present your ideas clearly, and with proper punctuation. It's one of the many indicators of educational level.

Hard to believe. If a young Marine was indeed stupid enough to say that then his life would pretty much be over as he knows it. The SM wouldn't care if mommy was watching or not. It's about discipline and respect. Anyone who defends the little momma's boy either didn't serve or didn't learn very much about military life.
