How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

That young Marine will be kicked out with an OTH or dishonorable discharge lrobably very sooner rather later. What a disrelsectful dumbass. The young Marine and his defensive mommy were wrong in this situation. Maybe she should of taught hhim respect since Corps couldnt do it. Lol

Ha! If that jarhead would have said that to Gunny Sgt. R. Lee Ermey, he would have likely got a punch in the gut.

If this incident happened as stated in find nothing wrong with the Sgt SgtMaj yanking the turd up. In an incident of this nature the counseling should have consisted of the boot having his skull crushed. I know it isn't politicaly correct. I don't care.

While I don't approve of putting hand on the troops, what the CSM did was right. In addition, the junior officer should have known better than get into a shouting match with an enlisted man. He has to be above such things-----Where0in-the-hell did he think he was---back on the block? As for the little pick that instigated this entire thing---I hope the CSM made him see the error of his ways----and I don't give a shit what his mommy had to say.

SGM was right. Young Marine will have a rough time in the service with an interfering mother.

1SG (Join to see) I agree - if my Mother would have said anything to anyone when they came to visit me at Fort Leonard Wood (in 1975) when they came for my graduation I would have been devastated. I made mistakes when I was an enlisted soldier (we've all made mistakes whether we want to admit it or not) and I was always respectful of the enlisted soldier making or taking correction action. I made the correction on the spot, moved on, and made sure it never happened again. As a Colonel Commander a Brigade of over 2,800 soldiers as recently as 2012 I've the good, the bad, and the ugly sometimes display by our newest and youngest soldiers and I've seen great NCOs and Officers take the best and the most professional approach to making corrections! Thanks for your feedback Tony!

If you are in uniform then maybe you should adhere to the military policies. However as a civilian if I'm wearing a hat inside I think I have the right to privacy. And the right to keep my hat on.

Do the marines not have a word like Shipmate to let each other no when they are jacked up?
I would be embarrassed for the young marine since he was with his family but he should have realized he was jacked up and corrected himself and keeped it moving

By the way Shipmate...you spelled "know" incorrectly. (sorry...I just can't help it)

TSgt Robert Danley - We can't help it. In that we're probably OCD. C'mon over and I'll swear you in.

So first off I doubt this actually happened.
If this happened I would say the Junior Marine was in the wrong and the Officer lost the high ground by dropping to his level.
The Sgt Maj did the right thing by deescalating the situation and removing the young Marine.
But I have some serious doubts that this is more than a made up story.

Thanks SSgt Christophe Murphy for commenting on the orginal question and I totally agree with your assessment. On the other hand I don't make up stories nor does my wife. Incident confirmed - that is directly from a commissioned officer with over 37 years and a lot of integrity! You can take that for what's it worth!

You know, back in the old days, shit, I'm really dating myself here, this would of never of happened in the first place. But I have no idea why it happens now. Marine Corps Policy and etiquette has always been you just don't wear a cover inside a building period. That's it, no discussion! WTF-over!

1SG Dennis Jones I don't disagree with him taking him by the collar outside for a butt chewing one-on-one, but the yelling across the inside of the MCX could have been handled better with all the other families around, etc. Just my opinion Dennis!
