How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

Bottom line the Marine shouldn't have had his cover on while in doors. And shouldn't have responded in the foul way that he did. Setting the proper presidence always should be displayed. The SGTMAJ didn't help matters by his conduct either. Could've been handled better!

Its not a huge deal to say sorry and take your cover off and then 5 feet later put it back on. If your with your parent why would you be cussing out a fellow Marine to begun with. Have pride in yourself and the Corps.

NEVER and let me repeat this NEVER piss off the SgtMaj. He was right and the young officer needs to be reminded how to handle troops. The young enlisted was TOTALLY in the wrong unless he was under arms.
The SgtMaj used a command voice (Plus hands) to gain control of the situation.
I do hope the SgtMaj used some CHARM to inform the Mother just what was wrong and why he handled the situation in the manner he did.

The young Marines these days know little tact. Also, the SgtMaj didn't display very much discipline and tact. As angering this issue is, the best thing to do would have been to remain calm and tell the junior Marine to get out of the building... Not drag him out by his collar in front of his mother. Very odd a senior enlisted Marine took those actions.

the troop should have said yes sir, and removed his cover or hat and it be over, if the sgtmaj had to step in it would both of you in my office in the morning in full dress.

Hasta La Vista Mom! Is what I have to say. I was once as Chief walking with my then Mother-in-Law in the lower compound in Naples, Italy when a female Air Force Major says to me you forgot to salute me Chief. Instead of making a scene and know I am not saluting her, but what she represents. I said sorry Mam (which you can make sound like yes bitch). I didn't see you and not to create a scene. I saluted and went on about my business. I explained what happened to my Mother-in-Law. Moral of the Sea Story the young Marine got was coming to his disrespectful young boot ass.

That enlisted marine was clearly out of line. There's really no debate here I mean you learn early on what the regs are and when you don't follow them you will be adjusted

That young Marine has not learned the word RESPECT and it should be taught to him. He failed on following instructions boots are taught about wearing the cover, and following directions of a senior member. The mother sounds like she is clueless as my mother would have stayed out of the situation as she had been a military house wife and knew the drill.
