I've got a background in agricultural mechanics, and competed on the national level for it, so I was all over the 15T MOS when I first heard about it. End goal is obviously crew chief. I've heard from some guys that flight is being run into the ground, and others say that it's definitely the way to go. Is this true, or does it just vary? Any and all input would be much appreciated.

Most technical jobs in the military have a fairly decent transferability to the civilian sector. Also keep in mind, while in the military you can work on different degree plans and technical schools using tuition assistance and other helpful programs to help you get an edge in the civilian world post-military. Your MOS might not always be exactly what you aspire to be in the civilian world. Hope this helps!

I've heard that the Army offers classes (in some way) to get you your A&P license, what sort of hoops would I have to jump through to get that?

LCpl (Join to see) - If you are looking to transfer your helicopter maintenance experience into a civilian job, you will need the A&P license. Check with your local FAA for testing materials and be prepared to study. Also, do some reverse engineering on where the jobs are at. Most newspapers offer training for airline mechanics. Plus, you can look into overseas contract jobs for the military like DynCorp. Good luck!

You’ll have some long days whether you’re a maintainer or a crew chief.
Being a crew chief can get boring if you’re just doing training flights. It’s mostly staring out the window and doing fuel checks. Doing support missions for ground troops can be fun.
If you get into a MEDEVAC company as a crew chief it definitely keeps you on your toes.
There’s opportunity after the Army as long as you’re willing to relocate. I think all of the active duty posts have contractors working on the flightline. Huntsville and Ft Rucker, AL have a lot going on in the way of rotary wing opportunity. There’s also med flight companies.
You could also go Guard and work your way into the technician program.
