I have a Vetnam Vet that has Stage 4 cancer and I run a Non-Profit. My question is, I am raising fundnds for his Medical bills! He only has 6-12 weeks and doesn't want to leave his wife with the bills. If I do a fund raiser for him would anyone be willing to help me? We are looking at around $9 K as of now! I am Paul Cottrell on FB!!

You have two ways that you can take care of the bills.

1) The fastest would be to utilizing crowd sourcing. Here is a list of the top ten crowd sourcing sites. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chancebarnett/2013/05/08/top-10-crowdfunding-sites-for-fundraising/

2) If he has reached the income level required he can get additional assistance from the VA. Due to his situation and the press about secret waiting list and long waits, he is very likely to get immediate attention.

You'll need to check on this to verify, but my understanding from what I've heard from others is that MD Anderson has programs that will get someone treated for "what they can afford" without racking up a bunch of debt.

Fun run? I raised $10k in a day for Wounded Warriors. It was only a 1.5 mile run, but we had a few hundred running.

May I add this suggestion - though I am certain that someone has recommended this.....Contact the Cancer Society....

honestly, through the office of public and intergovernmental affairs the VA has linked with local and federal (MetLife) systems to develop a cheap cost effective way to provide insurance. Search this link and I think you may find the answers you are looking for. http://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/enroll

SPC Shawn Durnen You're correct! However, I will add this caution; NEVER DEAL WITH THE VA ALONE!

I realize this may be off topic....

May I suggest someone contact a Veteran Service Organization (VSO) Service Officer and ask them to contact the Veteran to see if there is anything available to help the Veteran via the VA? Additionally, there are things available through the VA so the Veteran can plan things out for burial, etc. If you don't know of any VSO's in the area, contact me and I will find one for you.
