I was recently upgraded to 20% disability. Is there some card you get now that shows that? It sounds like I may get to use the commissary now? Can I get the new card on-line or do I need to go in to my VA Clinic?

I got my VA Healthcare card that shows "service connected" [disability] under the photo at the VA Outpatient Clinic that is closer to me than the VA hospital. The clinic took my picture and submitted the paperwork and it took about two weeks to get the ID card in the mail. You are correct, with "service connected" shown on the card you can buy gas and use the PX and Commissary plus some other facilities. I am part of the Boots to Business instructional staff in the TAP program. My VA ID now gives me access to the military bases where I teach without having to go through the Visitor Center and the paperwork hassle.

Thanks Vance. That is what I needed to know. With the shut-down my clinic is closed but now that I know the drill, I can make it happen.

You get a letter every time you percentage goes up. No card, just the letter. I scan it and keep it on my phone.
