Come October 1st, 13D and 13P will merge together to become 13J Fire Control Specialist. What will that do for us 13D/P promotional wise? Will points sky rocket? Right now, 13P points are 14/15 and 13D is 465/798. I'm a junior 13D working on my 5 and I'm just curious.
Thanks all.

I'm curious why they're doing that at all its 2 different systems...a howitzer & MLRS that's gonna make FDC AIT really long & painful & both entities will have to go back to school to learn how to do the other job

I went through as the 'tester' class for the 13J training. They had it as a general box knowledge on the AFATDS. They touch points on both MLRS and howitzers, and since everything is automated (for most artillery units), they left all the more detailed training up to the units that the particular soldier is assigned to. They may have changed it in the last couple years, but when I went through they never even mentioned manual gunnery.

Both MOS are the same concept and the only thing different is knowing the manual gunnery and munitions for Papas and vice versa. The school house has already planned all training in accordance to what needs to be taught ie. AIT, ALC, and SLC. I was in the 1st SLC 13J and it taught both jobs. It is not hard, that is why we are the brains of the artillery centers! Good Luck!

Thanks for replying SSG, I'm just trying to figure out things so I can know what's going on.. Our points have been fluctuating like crazy, anywhere from 380 to 795 within a month.. Secondary Zone is impossible to reach right now.

It can go multiple ways, it will open up the 13p side to cannon, and the 13d side to rocket. On the other hand it puts everyone into a big pot. My gut says 5 slots are going to be harder to come by.

How will the 13D and 13P merger impact 13D/P promotions?

Howdy Redlegs!! I'm just returning home from Africa with another Infantry unit. Now before you get all bent out of shape, I'm a Redleg through and through. I just got my E7 and need to get back into HIMARS and being a 13J. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as far as training , AFATDS, or whatever y'all have to help me get back. Thank you!

Nope, they'll do the exact opposite as I'm sure you've seen, thanks to the merger I picked up my 5. Hopefully you did as well

I wish I could tell you what points will do, only HRC knows that. I would think they might meet in the middle somewhere. We will see I guess. You are right about the Papa's having to learn some manual gunnery and apparently we will start teaching it again here at the school house, but in a very limited platform. As you know I love manual gunnery, so I am gonna fight to keep it around as long as I can. All I can say for you is to just keep working hard, do whatever you can to keep earning points and get yourself to the board if you haven't been already.
