How would joining the Special Forces affect my family life?

I am currently enlisted in the Reserves. As soon as I got back from AIT I knew I wanted more from my military career. I want to become special forces. I know how the process works as far as selection is concerned but that's as far as my knowledge of it goes. I would like to know what comes next if I were to be selected. For example would I be stationed stationed somewhere, will I be able to bring my family, etc. My main concern is my daughters. I wouldn't want to advance my career at the expense of my children being without their dad. Any advice is helpful. Thanks in advance.

I am married and have 4 young children. Two boys 13,10, and two girls 6,2. My wife and I have been married 14 years and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for both me and them. You have to get your significant other on board though. After that, enjoy the "better" Army life.

I have twin girls that are 5. If this is the path that my wife and I decide how do you explain to your kids that things will be changing as far as lifestyle and time together?

Justin Michaux - 5 is still pretty young. The older they get, the tougher it will be. Make the best of time when your together and just remind them that their dad has a very important job in helping people. While they may not necessarily understand, they will never hate you for not being there for them while you off serving your country.
