It's clear that Mayor Rahm Imanuel nor anyone else purportedly running the city has a clue. Everything they've tried has only exacerbated the problem. So, what's the solution. Maybe we can reach a consensus and suggest it to them. Who knows, maybe we'll win a prize, a badge to post on RP.

Probably establish more gun-free zones. Sarcasm over.
Gun violence doesn't exist in a vacuum. I think we would be better served rewording the question to: How would you fix Chicago's gang violence?
"Of the 12 killings in Chicago over Christmas weekend, he said, 90 percent of the victims had gang affiliations, criminal histories and were pre-identified by the department's "strategic subject algorithm" as being a potential offender or victim of gun violence." I don't know if that 90% applies to the remainder, but it is pretty telling.

There are just 10 neighborhoods accounting for over half the gun violence in Chicago - declare a state of emergency, call in the national guard at o dark ugly and search all people and vehicles going in or out of these hot spots.

Yes sir, the stats are true. In looking at cop shootings I wanted to know not only where the violence was stemming from but as well the racial demographics for high crime areas in Chicago. When it comes to gun violence there are what I call the top 10 shot spots. Eight of the ten areas are predominately black - 80% or higher, the other two are Hispanic @ 60%. I wanted to understand the odds of police encounters. (found this to be impossible as no information on the race of patrolling officers was available) - however from this research I discovered the very disproportionate violent crime rates for these 10 areas. As well the website heyjackass supports my findings. Scroll down a bit and you will see the 2016 Deadliest hoods for Chicago. As well it has a shot in the ass-o-meter. Not to directly blame the victim I feel the problem is the mix of a cultural issue "fatherless children" and failed social reforms that have created a perfect storm - regardless of income fatherless children are 20 times more likely to end up in prison. I get dogged a lot with claims of blaming the victim however its more so the policies that have contributed to every increasing trend especially within the black communities.

At this point, the Governor would need the IL NG. Using the local law enforcement would result in many deaths and requires overwhelming force.
