It’s a broad question - as there is so many factors that would have to be taken into account. Generally, would you be more in favor of it being handled at the section/platoon level with corrective action, or do you favor recommending the soldier for UCMJ?

In favor of the lowest level possible, age to drink should be 18 anyway.

Not enough info to formulate useful response.

The "answer" could be anything from a stern look and "Well, that was fun, are you done doing stupid things now" after an extended Hangover PT session to UCMJ and separation

SSgt Joseph Baptist - Right.... I'm sure you "carded" everyone that ever attended your "Advancement" or "Re-Enlistment" parties too. ALL your friends were NOT allowed to drink.

I did not state that the seniors should be unaccountable. YOU inferred and stated that to me.

SSgt Joseph Baptist - "Don't forget about UCMJ action against the person or persons who illegally provided the under 21 servicemember with alcohol"

Heck of an assumption there don't you think.
Underage folks have been consuming alcohol that was not "provided to them" for as long as laws and alcohol have existed.
The Underage person that helped them self to a drink or 4 knowing they are underage is personally responsible for the act>
Blaming the person that had a BBQ at their house, providing soft drinks, water, Iced Tea and yes, Beer is a pitiful thing at best. If the Sm will not accept responsibility for pouring a beer down their throat, I don't want them in my Army in any case. I also would not want the SSgt that is looking to place blame on anyone but the specific individual that broke the law.

Now if some crew of SPC4 Mafia was holding down the new guy and pouring Mad Dog 20/20 down his throat..then yes, hold them responsible. But if that same underage new guy reached past the can of coke and grabbed the bottle of Mad Dog........ yup, its ALL on him..... to say otherwise, well, thats a great illustration of part of what is wrong in society..

1st offense needs to be handled in Section. Old enough to be handed a machine gun, should be old enough to have a beer, responsibly.
