I would just ignore it. My service is more important than my ego.

Show them my military ID.Tell them I was in Afghanistan.So where did you go or did you serve.

I would show them my retired Navy ID

When I'm out and about in my California Maritime Academy cadet uniform people try to out me as stolen valor because it looks like a Navy uniform. They say "hey, are you in the navy?!" And I say "Nope...army" with no further explanation.
