We had a Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara who tried to run the military with business management principles he used when he ran Ford Motors. He used Case Studies, Statistical Analysis, Correlation & Probability Forecasting, Cost Analysis & Cost Management during Vietnam. McNamara used this data for decision making and presentations to President Lyndon Johnson. Most Vietnam Historians are mixed over the results of McNamara's tenure as SecDef . His business management principles were not used again by other SecDefs or used to manage a war by any other Presidents after Johnson.
