I am about to make my nephew my legal dependent and want to transfer my MGIB and Post 911 GI Bill to him. What do I need to do?

He is not my dependent yet, will be after he turns 18. I have used 5 classes on my MGIB, the rest I want to go to him.

You may transfer your post 9/11 to anyone in your DEERS. The transfer is done on Milconnect. Once you transfer, there is no longer any MGIBill only Post 9/11. You also owe four more years to the Army after the transfer

Thank you, tracking that portion, but feel like I am missing a middle step. He isn't my dependent yet, he won't be for another few weeks. Also tracking the ADSO. Thanks for your quick reply.

CW4 (Join to see) there is no middle step. You can transfer your Post 9/11 to anyone listed as a dependent in your DEERS. Just log into Milconnect, click the buttons, and you will get an email from the person who approves it in a few days

Go to the Education Center. The key is you have the GI Bill and dependents, and if you want to add them for the educational benefits, just give each recipient 1% of the benefits. It will ensure they are in the program, and the percentages can be changed later. I retired in 2014 and this was the process for me. If nothing has changed then this is too easy.

I called an Education Center and they said you can go to a website or just go to the Education Center and they will help your accomplish this mission. Have a good day. I did my good deed, I can quit for today. lol
