If you trying to go to a high speed unit it is much easier to get released from your current contract prior to going to BCT. Before doing so make sure you check with the AD recruiters and that you meet the qualifications. Best of luck on your endeavors!

check with the SF Guard Recruiters in your areas... Usually at the Units, company or BN level...
What State are you IN, or close to...

I guess my advice at this point would be to see if you can change your contract to include the REP63/18X option. That gets you Airborne before you get to the selection process. I would get very serious about PT if that were my choice, especially running and rucksack marches.

Just a few thoughts. First you have as good of a chance of getting into Ranger school as Astronaut school in the Guard. They have scaled back the school and there are very few slots for Guard guys unless you know somebody that can pull strings. My old armory had MP's and 20th Group commo in the same building and I picked up a few things, but am no means do I know much about it. My suggestions are just what I would do and there may be some people that know better than me for sure. First, get through Basic and AIT. Once that is done find the closest 20th Group armory and go visit them. Let them know you are thinking about becoming a snake eater and see if they have any positions for a support role with them. If they do you will have to put a request for transfer in to change units and then the powers to be will decide if they will let you go. You may have to change MOS, but most Guard guys have several. It will be easier for you if you have a better understanding of what is required if you get it from the guys that have been there and done that. At some point, I would suggest you get a study guide for SF. There are a ton of test you have to take and pass before you will even be looked at. I have heard the language test has a high failure rate and is what stops most people. I had a friend that failed the language test twice and he studied the guide for months. He was super smart. He said it was no joke.
Now in saying all that, why would you not want to become an MP? We are just like SF, but we also get to write tickets for 3mph over the speed limit and get to say things like, "Don't mistake your rank for my authority." Or when you walk into the DFAC and you hear "Fucking MPs" you know it is because of jealousy from guys that are just regular army who only get to do things like drive tanks or jump out of airplanes...boring. MP is where the cool factor really is. We are so cool the Army gave us our own our own velcro patches that say "MP" to let everybody know we are the siznat. SF and Rangers just get a tab. Just doing the math....that is only like a 1/4 the size of MP awesomeness. Not everybody gets to be MP cool all the time. Think about it. Just saying. "Death before dismount!"

I wrote Airborne Ranger, and I didn't mean to say Airborne Ranger, but it seems like I can't edit it out. I'm sorry for any confusion if there was any.
