I was there from 04-09, not a bad place for families while I was there. Not sure what it is like there now. When I left they were building family housing units at three locations; that should be done now. The PX is a decent size and there was a lot to do if you didn't mind doing some travelling. Basic rule at Drum is winter sucks, but family time was valued do to rapid deploying unit status.

SFC Boatwright - I was in 10th Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum from 2003-2006. When I was there we just moved out to the airfield in new facilities and there was a whole bunch of construction going on…new facilities and new on post housing. If you like the outdoors, great place to be. Lots of snow in the winter time - they issued snow blowers in on post housing! Alexandria Bay is a great place to hang out in the summer time…and Canada is right up 81. Watertown has been built-up quite a bit since I've been there.
Look up some folks by unit on RP - and I'm sure they will be able to give you more recent info.
I had a great time while I was there - and would not mind going back. All of the horror stories you hear about Fort Drum…are usually from folks who have never been there.
Good luck…make the best of it!

I would recommend a few things, hit up the RP search engine for information about the installation as there is available on the site, and also search for specific MOS as yours to find people and units you may go to and then hit them up directly.
You can also check the unit tab located within the RallyPoint Universe tab above as well for individual units with personnel listed within them.
Good luck and keep as much German snivel gear as they will allow you, because Drum is just like if not worse at times as Germany is for the cold weather.

I wish I could of helped you sooner there SFC. Don't lose any of your TA-50 issue because you have to turn it all in to supply except your wool socks, underwear, and t-shirts.
