I am in the Army National Guard currently. I have approximately 4.5 years left on my contract. Can I do Air Force ROTC?

My University offers army rotc, and I know that when you contract with ROTC they override your current enlisted contract. I’d rather be an Air Force officer. If I were to do Air Force rotc could the same thing happen?

The NG would have to release you to sign an Air Force contract. This requires a DD368 usually approved by a General officer. This would be the same form you would need if you received a line scholarship for Army ROTC. So it is up to your unit to release you. There is no requirement for them to do so.

My short answer is Yes, especially if your pitch is that you want to be an Air National Guard officer in the same state.

Back in 1987, I got an early release from active duty ry to attend ROTC as a non-scholarship student. Did 2 years in ROTC & NG, and then went back on active duty as a new Army 2LT. It is possible, but as the Colonel said, my releasing unit had the option to approve or disapprove my request. I know that was a long time ago and did not include switching services, hope it helps to know it is possible.

SPC (Join to see) there are folks at my base who are enlisted in the Guard, but currently attending AFROTC at Mizzou. I would think you could do both, depending on what your state regulates.

No clue how to answer your question but good choice :). If there were incentives with your NG contract then it becomes tricky, if not then it's easy. Even with incentives your gaining agency (ANG) just needs to agree to pick that up and the NG needs to agree to transfer it. Make sure these agreements are in email format so you have proof. When is been Army ROTC, I trained at West Point with my unit, if I'd known about this, I'd have asked to go, or to SUNY Maritime, where I've known sevl grads...also, ROTC or I'd expect USMC PLC unit commanders, I'd learned can apparently nominate for an academy for their own svc, a little trick is learned along the way, I'm sure, you'd need to ask, though I did hear that at one point....

NOAA has a 5 yr flight program fixed and rotary wing, they do pure science, they're thensmallest, their LOW direct commission Indic is BOTC, a tenant at USMMA, I saw it and walked through the bldg when seeing my brother there at USMMA....

A.family friend did this as Army enlisted, it was a rough program, he got his bach aviation at Embry Riddle,.Army released him, USCG picked him up, he finished as an O-3....
