I am ISTing to TX, either to 11B or 12B. What units are recommended, and why?

Who: 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne). Why: be a paratrooper, do realistic training that matters. It is the best disciplined, best equipped infantry battalion in the state.

I have been doing my homework on the 143rd and that's where I have been leaning towards. How are promotions? Are there slots? Other then airborne school is there others? Thank you Sgt.

Airborne operations are very complex, so serving in an airborne battalion will give you access to the majority of TRADOC schools: Ranger, Jump Master, Pathfinder, etc. Slots are coded, so appropriately qualified soldiers with less promotion points will have priority over under qualified soldiers. (E.g., for a V-coded E-6 slot, a soldier with fewer promotion points but is V-coded [airborne Ranger] will have priority over a P-coded [airborne] soldier with greater promotion points). So, your career is truly in your hands. Stay in shape, learn your job, and earn the qualifications, get promoted. 1-143(A) is currently part of the 173rd ABCT, so drill weekends are long, many starting Thursday morning. Many guardsmen have a problem with this, so personnel are rotating in and out of companies at a greater rate than I've seen in memory. High motivation and personal drive is required.

I am in the WA guard doing the same extended drills as TX. Our big brother is the 7th ID and see the same issue you mentioned in the units. I appreciate your assistance and look forward to being part of the 143rd.
