Well its progression, 0689 gets more in depth than just data, its more training and education in the IT security world which makes for my civilian use when I get out give me that much more experience in that job area. I mean I am very motivated to stay in 0651 but 0689 is more where I want to put myself in my career I dont have anything bad to say about the 0651's. It will better my career though for me, as well the bonus for both are very enticing especially 0689. Whats your reason for going 51?

Im currently an 6114 Aircraft Mechanic and for the last three units ive been with over the last five and a half years the tempo has been threw the roof. Ive never work less then 12 hours a day and sometimes up to 16 hour at 7 days a week. That on top of the fact that the airwing is so busy we dont do nomral green side stuff like PT or marching. I just got done with sergeants course and i talked to a 0651 in the course with me. Every one i talked to about lat moving says 0651 is a good fit for me based on my computer savvy. So based upon what i learned about from the other sergeant and every one elses recommendation, im going 0651. He also highly recommended taking a cisco certification course. He said that cert is what really counts on the outside. Based on the fact that hes getting out soon and getting offered positions that pay almost six figures, id say he knows what hes talking about.

I see your reasoning for LAT moving, as for that guy getting six figure offers I would have to know more about his background IE what education he has as far as certifications go and college completed and experience. As well what clearance he has, if you find out that I could easily confirm or call bs on him. The only way you would get those kind of offers is if you have a bachelors degree, 7-10+ years of experience and if you have a TS/SCI like I do you would have a much better chance of getting a GOV or contractor job that might pay that well; MIGHT. I dont know the guy but with those guidelines its possible. I have been doing this for 7 years, with active duty time and civilian jobs, have worked with state government and now currently contractor. If you dont have a bachelors degree or CCNA you wont make more than 45k, unless you get a job that requires TS/SCI. I know cause im in that position i have the experience, but not enough ceritifcations, and I also dont have a bachelors degree. Believe me I am kicking myself for not getting those done sooner. He is right though about the cisco certifications, that would be CCNA that alone will get you offers starting at 55k but wont go more than probably 75k again depending on your clearance. I dont know what all you know about computers, but the 0651 deals with network configurations such as configuring routers and switches, working with Microsoft Server, Active Directory Domain Services. If any of these terms are foreign to you, then you will need to do some research cause those are the basics for 0651. If you have any more questions man you can contact me directly.

I know he said his offer was from out of country so probably in a developing nation with a high demand for that skill.
