I am planning to go to school to get a BA degree in IT unless I can get a job with the USPS. What would you suggest I do?

I would still go to school and earn a degree; you'll open more doors that way, and you may not be happy working for the USPS.

You're quite welcome. You won't regret getting a degree - I used my GI benefits and earned my BBA years ago, and my career has taken me into the aerospace and biotechnology industries, and I've earned a pretty good living at them.
Remember, 'they' can take everything away from you, including your life, but 'they' can't take an education away from you.
Now, the key is studying a major that's marketable, not just something ordinary. So, I suggest looking into fields that are in demand and couple that with what you'd be interested in doing. And seeing you appear to be doing some sort of computer work in the US Army, the IT / IS / computer field has a wide-range of opportunities, so that would be where I'd steer you towards. Besides, the USPS is 'governmental' and the starting pay is low, whereas a starting salary in computers is likely to pay you double.
Good luck!

Start college NOW. Get a head start.
Why can't you get a degree AND work?
There are a lot of occupations within "IT". You need to be specific.

SPC (Join to see) - Look into Management, Information Systems. It's the nitty gritty of IT combined with a healthy dose of business curriculum. Degree holders of MIS typically wind up as either IT admins or, believe it or not, Project Managers. And PM's can wind up making a whole lot more money than IT guys. I have a BS in MIS, but I've never used it because I love the career I have.

SN Greg Wright - My PM course professor stated much of the same thing regarding PM's.

I have a high schooler, a 1st Grader, my wife shifts are hell (works in a hospital) and i am getting MEBd so i have some disabilities that might work against me at some point being so much stuff at the same time. That is why i am thinking at one at a time.

After I got out, I worked for USPS as a Rural Carrier Associate. It was definitely an experience, but there are a lot of little things to pay attention to. What position were you planning on becoming? As a RCA, i lived out in the sticks and had to drive my own vehicle, but I got EMA for it. I was also part time, until someone else died or retired (reminds me of the MR rate when I was in). As a clerk or handler, you start off with a lower salary, but fulltime. As a City Carrier Associate, it depends on your office, but you start part time, and become full time within so many months after, depending on union policy. The picture is of me catching a bird in an LLV (long life vehicle, or postal truck) on a rural route west of Chicago.

SPC (Join to see) - Clerks are a decent position. They have a lower salary normally, but the job is straight forward and predictable. The 2 clerks I worked with before became City Carriers, and more than doubled their checks. If you are near smaller towns, you could also try for Acting Post Master, to be in charge of an office (or 3), and have dibs on the Post Master job when it opens. Thats where the big money is.
