I am trying to go Active Duty from Reserve. I have submitted a conditional release, and it has been a year. Any ideas to get a unit release?

I am also interested in deployment. I have used MOBCOP and Personnel Force Innovation to my avail. I desperately need to be released from the Reserve.

Yeah when I joined the National Guard in 1982 the rule of thumb was NO CONDITIONAL RELEASES would be signed until 2 years had elapsed since graduation from AIT. That was the rule when the force was growing rapidly under Ronald Reagan and they needed people on Active Duty. I don't know what the rules are today for USAR but would not be surprised if they had a limit like that as the force shrinks. Each transfer to Active Duty from USAR or NG sometimes means that someone on Active Duty has to wait longer for promotion (depends on the rank of the Soldier making the transfer).

Specialist, there are similar regulations in place now. Though, it is 6 months and not 2 years. Though, I understand that this process is going to take a while. I just hope I get Active Duty.

The approval authority for release from the Army Reserve is HQ, USARC. Every level of your chain of command has to endorse it. Many DD368 conditional releases get kicked back down the chain from USARC because they don't have all the required documents, including a DA 4187. That is how it falls through the cracks, if it even made it to HQ, USARC in the first place. My advice is to review the current USAR policy on conditional releases and resubmit IAW that policy. See your S-1 for that.

Sergeant, thank you for your knowledge. I will ensure I have all the proper documentation so my packet will go all the way up without any hiccups. I will visit my s-1 next week and ensure that packet is perfect.

SGT (Join to see) - Wait by your last statement "you will visit your S1"? Are you going thru a recruiter or what? I'm confused?

It is your unit S-1. All a recruiter can do is give you a DD368 to submit to them. The S-1 should be ensuring the conditional release packet they send up is complete

Questions you should be asking the unit- the forum is good to see to what happened with others experiences, but every situation is unique in itself.
