You will report to replacement detachment, spend a week to 20 days there and get your finial unit of assignment a few days out.
Do not listen to ANYONE, myself included on your new unit..go and discover yourself, it is largely what you make of it. If you don't like how you are received at the new unit, DON'T receive the next new guy the same way.
If you don't like that junior leaders lead from the back, have a do as I say, not as I do mentality SHOW them a different way, don't waste your breath telling them... raise the bar and they will follow, or fall by the way side.
I was in 1st Cav 2005~2013
MSG in 2-5Bn S3, 1SG Aco 2-5, S3 SGM 2-5, SGM 1CD G3....ask me a specific question i'll give you a specific answer.

SFC (Join to see) You just earned a free lunch Sergeant on me....
Outstanding response, thanks for stepping up.
And the offer stands, even if the young troop ends up assigned to another unit (Its replacement Det, so MOS shortages be damned, he could end up as a pool lifeguard working for MWR, at the AAS academy or Div G3, G3 aviation staff)

Fort Hood is actually a good duty station. You're roughly 4 hours from Houston,3 hours from Dallas, 90 minutes from San Antonio, and 1 hour from Austin. I enjoyed just finding some fishing holes nearby and relaxing.

Plenty of ok fishing holes ok post. Clear creek lake on west Fort Hood was alright....so was bird bath lake on the main post....on your way to buried bath lookout for some cool fossils.

You're right, not too many good fishing spots locally. Deep sea fishing was nice when I could go.
I left active duty and Texas completely in February.
My reserve unit demoted me to PFC .
I just wished there was at least a funny or worthy story to go with my demotion.
