I had a friend and fellow squad leader get a field grade article 15 and he was busted from SSG to SGT. Would he ever get E-6 again?

He definitely could have. I received a FG Art 15 in 2011 in Afghanistan for disobeying my PL. Busted down from SGT to SPC. Made SGT back in 14 months and then 11 months after pinning SGT, I pinned SSG. Don't get me wrong, it sucked. I spent a lot of time proving myself to my new PL and PSG, and the company command. It can be done though.

I am just curious, why this is. My buddy got a Company Grade Article 15 as a SPC, Special Forces took him and he retired a MSG in 2005. So is it because he got the FG Article 15 as a SSG that makes it a career ender? Or have times changed since the 1980's as far as discipline?

When I entered the military in the late 1970’s, most senior NCOs wore the three D’s (Divorce, DUIs and Disciplineary Action) like a badge of honor. I know s SF NCO that retired as an E7 w/3 Article 15s. Those days are gone forever.
