CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

Did he have a DPS issued open carry permit? State law says you can legally open carry long guns not pistols unless you have an open carry license. He file a complaint with the State AG’s office in Austin for Offical Oppression and civil law suit the chief and the city.

It's very sad when we have a 1SG push his personal platform here on RP. This is NOT Facebook. To the original poster, what point does this serve to enlighten those of us who come to RP for current, past & future camaraderie & memories? I am not an attorney, I pursue law as a hobby only, but common sense says that if they (cops, anyone, etc) point a gun at u & ARE in a position of authority, u comply but state you ARE doing so under duress, LOUDLY & CLEARLY! All that better so it can be heard. 1SG, do it your way, but know this: we fought for our rights already, we know how much reverence the govt has for our services----that being zilch, & a dead ex-soldier can't protest a damn thing!!!!! Compliance doesn't mean culpable. It's safety in numbers & a chance to win in court & fight another day. Having said this, I will explain that I am totally for open carry but prefer concealed carry, as no thug can take a weapon they can't see! Also, as one who has a temper, I personally don't carry at all, because IF I snapped, there literally would be a blood bath, & innocents DO NOT deserve such. Me & my PTSD prefer peace. On top of all this, I have challenged cops verbally but there weren't pointing a gun at me, their request was stupid & illogical, & I wasn't carrying any weapon, nor did they have reason to arrest me----this involved a downed tree in my yard & 1 cop asking me not to view the fallen end of said tree! Stand if u feel u must, but laws r not made to be broken. They are made to be challenged, if unreasonable, or illegal, in court. I have a great brain & the soul of the patriot that I am but I have also NEVER needed to carry a firearm to prove my point. We aren't in combat, so as u were, 1SG. That's my 2 cents & I am entitled to such. I live in GA.

PFC Kim Fergerson Stop pushing your personal platform of opposing my personal platform. Did you serve or not? If so, you took an oath, did you not? Was that oath to defend the constitution of the United States or was it to preserve abusive police power? I can't help but wonder, PFC. If a cop came up to you and demanded that you drop your pants and bend over, would you ""comply but state you are doing so under duress, LOUDLY & CLEARLY" or would you refuse to comply?

Hey 1SG, my PTSD is from being raped by a drill sergeant, thank you! I did not calmly comply either, we were off post, & he had a good 75 lbs on me. Yep, ur welcome to my service, & I think ur a grand-stander for sure. Luckily, I don't trigger @ stupid stuff said by careless individuals. Leake, I didn't say 1SG posted it. I questioned why such would be relevant here in a non- Facebook environ. This is a FORUM, & I merely stated my opinion on the topic. I digress on occasion as I do have chronic pain from my PTSD, & that causes me to take side loops on occasion. Hey, buddy, I didn't ask for PTSD. I earned it from my service & if u didn't want to hear opinions, why post? Similarly, if u didn't care for my opinion, u might do the adult thing & just agree to disagree. U did answer my question, & I thank u for doing so. As for me stating I have PTSD, u mustn't know much about the condition. To be able to talk of it is a healing thing, bar none. I'm a hard charger & I drive on every day, a helluva a lot better than 2 fellas that got their panties in a knot because I don't agree with their opinion. Once ur not in the military, ur rank means dick, which is exactly what you & the first shirts opinions mean to me, but y'all have fun, ya hear?

PFC Kim Fergerson - this is very common on RP for people to push there own view on things about really any topic. If you disagree about something or you have a different view about it then come with your view point but he is allowed to have his view point and this is a place to share ideas and opinions respectfully even if we don't agree with the other person.

SSG Matthew H, I now understand that & I thank u for the explanation. So be it. However, I do find it interesting that my opinion was similar to others, tho more bluntly stated, & I seem to be the only one that stuck in their craw. I wasn't aware that lack of tact might get me in hot water here just because I am a very blunt person. Be that as it may, I rarely comment on RP, I did on this issue, it ruffled some feathers, & I will continue to be who I am :). Good day & thanks!

Alert all the Veteran groups in Texas and the surrounding states, I’m sure a minimal of 700 is foreseen and would join a peaceful march in protest. If you get others involved the Governor has to launch an investigation. Remember, The Governor is like the president they serve at the will of the American people, not the other way around. Something the Mayor of Olmos Park had better learn fast. One thing sticks in my head. Those policemen who approached Grisham appeared to be Mexican or of Mexican heritage. My question would be first; are they “Legal” US American citizens? Second: Are they certified by the State Police Academy? Thirdly: Could it possibly be a case of reverse discrimination, being they were Brown skinned, Mexican looking using their authority as a basis for racism discrimination towards white people while holding a badge and working in law enforcement? Something I’d have my Cop hating liberal attorney look into.

Did he specifically go out and see if he could cause a altercation with the Police? Did the Chief over react?

Number 1, when did we elect to go back to the wild Wild West? Open carry is bullshit for the man/child that thinks it make him tough. It should never have been passed anywhere for any reason. More of the authoritarian bullshit we have been living through for the last 4 years.

Number 2, the police all across this country have been coddling the alt-right and punishing legitimate protesters. Too bad that the table got turned somewhat on people who had no legitimate purpose to have guns present at a protest.

This goddamn administration and its backers and followers are destroying this democracy.
