I have conflicting feelings over this. I know that open carry is a thing in Texas, but who crossed the line, if anyone?

CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.
Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).
Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).
Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.
Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

As much as I am law abiding. The police are more liberal and it's because they get power from the liberals. They do not want to lose that power. Not only that those that say they are brave that so not believe in what is happening are true cowards because they are to scared to risk everything and go against what in their hearts they know are wrong

When the law in Texas tells ya get on the ground, you do it! Their job is public safety. I carry to, concealed. You wanna act stupid and entitled, not obey their commands it's not gonna go well for you!

Sounds like a great law suit, loss of a few dozen job positions and a violation of Texas law about open carry.

As a side note, the state has followed the dictates and meaning of the US Constitution. A public servant in a community cannot make changes to the state laws without the legislation to permit or. . his goose is cooked.

Unfortunately, I have had an armed Robber shove his illegally possessed weapon shoved in my face. I was working at the Auto Parts store I managed in Richmond VA. I am convinced that this crackhead would have shot me if undid anything other than what he told men to do.
I consider myself to be an excellent shot I trained regularly and shot PPC.
The company I worked for had a struct No Personal Weapon Policy.
The Big Stud Infantryman in me was diminished by that incident.
I knew what was happening as soon as i heard my cashier's call.
If I were armed then I would have used better combat tactics than I did.

Bottom line is this: when the police give you an order to do something, you do it. If you believe you have cause for a complaint, hire an attorney and fight it out in court later. Why can't people learn that you just can't go around arguing and fighting with the police. You never win.

I don't understand the "conflicting feelings". Open carry is not a "thing" in Texas, it is the LAW in Texas. And I may or may not disagree with the LAW in Texas with regards to open carry, but that is completely irrelevant. It was the LAW (and still is) at the time the incident took place. Apparently (because I wasn't there to witness it), a Texas police chief decided to flaunt the law and in the process, as someone else very eloquently stated, demonstrated the "corruption and constitutional violations of the Olmos Park Police department." Olmos Park has a problem: a scofflaw police chief. There is nothing more dangerous than a person with power that wields it without regard to the law. This is what our Founding Fathers wanted to prohibit. This is why the Constitution was written and this nation formed.
You ask a question: "who crossed that line, if anyone?" That last "if anyone" implies you have some doubt... that it is unclear to you if anyone crossed the line you speak about. Since you don't offer details, I am left to suppose that you mean the "violence" line. On this basis, I don't understand the question either, because the narration of the incident that I have read CLEARLY indicate that it was the police that decided to engage in the threat of force and the execution of forceful acts, to include violent attacks on non-threatening citizens. To get a "second opinion", I also discussed the case with a cousin, who is a police officer (although not in Texas), who indicated that the police actions, as he read them, were completely out of line. So I am confused by your question and the "if anyone" tagged on to the end.

I didn't write the article, I simply shared it, and asked a question. I did not realize that I would be psychoanalized on it. I do know that it's "a law" and not "the law" as you stated. Although I no longer serve, I try to maintain my military bearing and respect the rank of the person I'm responding to. I do make exceptions though. COL Mikel J. Burroughs, Lt Col Charlie Brown, 1SG Cj Grisham, SMSgt Minister Gerald A. "Doc" Thomas, are just some that I respect as a person. They give great insights and are helpful to Rally Point members. Well, I appreciate your response. It was not my intention to offend or even psychoanalyze anyone. I had some confusions regarding what was stated and I asked. I certainly did not intend any disrespect. If my words did not convey my intent, then I need to be more careful in terms of the way I write going forward. And as far as this particular response is concerned, I apologize.
