I have conflicting feelings over this. I know that open carry is a thing in Texas, but who crossed the line, if anyone?

CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.
Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).
Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).
Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.
Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

That’s how a Police State would start, with disregard for others rights because they questioned their methods!

Political correct dumb response of law enforcement over reacting without probable cause or proper training. Want to be heroes telling another war story from the mean streets of arresting with force law abiding citizens Want to be heroes need to understand signing a contract does not make one a hero. Knowing full well no harm would come to them in any way from the citizens is common sense. Arresting citizens that abide by the law and post no threat is a good way of wasting time while justifying your power trip position. Hours of processing and report preparation instead of going toe to toe with criminals and pro-active law enforcement in the community. Heroin dealers, felonious criminals or would be wrong doers would not carry openly in such a manner while not aiming weapons in the direction of respondents.
Mr. Rene Valenciano has a problem. Perhaps more than one. Take it from a F.O.P. Life Member and commonsense advocate. Lawyer up now.

Be interesting to see what the AG does with this case and I'm sure the Officer, and department will be held accountable and at the least will held Civilly Liable if not Criminally.

Why do you have conflicting feelings. Consider the fact you might is not based on any problem the person open carrying is causing. Open carry was the standard for millennia, either swords, knives early on, or pistols in the "old west". Consider you look at it as a problem not for what it is but by conditioning where for the last 50 years people have been told weapons are the problem. Is open carrying a pistol any different than open carrying a hammer in principle? Both just tools, arguably the hammer can and does kill more people nationally. Yet its the pistol you are uncomfortable with.
To approach it another way, consider the Navy's conduct of freedom of navigation patrols in the South China Sea and elsewhere. We dont particularly need to go there. We could not do it and avoid conflict. We do it because we can and we need to ensure that our rights are maintained and others dont slowly take them away in a grab for power.
The ooen carrying in this town is even more important than the Navy patrols. This exposed a right that the people have that is de facto taken away by power hungry cops that decided that town isnt allowed to have that right according to them. No legislature, no vote, no signature ever saw the light of day that condones what they did. But they did it because no one has challenged them till now.

Um, if you're referring to me as being uncomfortable with pistols, that's incorrect. As I've stated in other responses, I'm a CCW holder, and carry every day. Also, this is not the first incident between the two parties.

Many Texas police chiefs and Sheriffs seem to think they are above the law. They tried and continue to try to find ways to stand against the open carry law just as they did when concealed carry was passed. Some have no problem harassing law abiding Texans at every turn. Rather than maintaining the peace they do stuff like this typically without any repercussions or at least you never heard about them being held accountable. The police probably provoked a couple ppl in the 2A group into doing something so the police felt justified in taking actions so they could claim the group wasn't peaceful to push for the law being repealed.
