CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

It's now 11/7/2019. I couldn't find any update on police chief fired or legal actions against department. I would like FACTS and not more OPINIONS.

When I finished my first 6 years of active Military duty in the early 80s, I became a PEACE OFFICER here in Alaska. Daily, I reminded myself that I was working for everyone else in my community. Unlike a Knight who was sworn to the Laird of the local castle, my badge and position descended from early American county Sheriff's who stayed up all night and chased down criminals so the other citizens would be freed from those chores. I was not better than everyone else and ALL my fellow citizens had the same power that I did. They were simply paying me to do it , so they could pursue their regular vocations.
I spent 20 years as a Law Dawg, ( while still in the military reserves, as did my Colonial Ancestors) and I always kept my oath. But towards the end of my Peace Officer career, I noticed a radical swing in the types of people who were being hired. Many who would have NEVER passed the old psychological and personality tests, much less have been able to serve in combat boots. Due to years of EEO law suits and political pressure, many unstable or politically motivated power-freaks were sneaking through the hiring process. Eventually these junior Himmlers became hiring managers or supervisors themselves; thus they hired like minded drones or deviants who were also more than happy to stomp on the U.S. and State Constitutions in order to maintain their power positions.

Well, at least he won't ever need money. He won't need money for his campaign or want for anything for the rest of his life. Sue them, collect, and then throw it back in their face.

The answer here is Simple, Quit carrying around Weapons of War, treat all Men, Women, and Children as Equal's, If I view YOU as my Equal I never need a Weapon, YOU are never a Threat to me! In my time in Vietnam I almost, almost, killed an old man, just tending to his fields, because I was in "Ambush" Position and he entered my field of Vision, and I had control of an M-60 Machine gun, and thousands of rounds of ammo, I chose instead to put on a Tracer bullet show far above his head, I doubt he ever noticed it.....

I have a CHL, and I live in Texas. I prefer to carry concealed for many reasons however if someone doesn't want to and they legally can that's fine.

Fifty years ago, I shot a man dead, because a Woman lied to me and told me, "This Man is Beating on my Children" I had to go into prison, I served my time out, and vowed to never, ever carry another weapon, I have been faithful to that vow, if any man should attack me now, I will use my fist's and defeat him/her. i do not need nor desire a GUN. I am so sick of reading of man's inhumanity to man, when I go to my grave I will go naked, and alone, no guns allowed in Heaven!

I hope Grisham sues the Chief personally for assault with intent to injure, perhaps felony assault, and also sues the City, along with any other officer that inflicted injury to Grisham. Unfortunately, many law enforcement officers feel they have the right to just about anything without oversight. I have seen too many police and Special Agents abuse their position, escalate the threat and use of force during an arrest. Any protest of arrest can lead to being violently thrown to the ground and a beating by several officers, just watch an episode of "Cops" which is heavily edited in favor of the cops.
I live in El Paso, TX, and after the recent massacre at the Walmart, the cops here would shoot first, empty several clips, say I was pointing a gun at them, and turn off their body cams.

I guess my thoughts are, two wrongs do not make a right...even if three lefts do.

For the record, the three lefts portions was only to add humor to something that is dearly lacking in anything funny.

Should we defend our rights, and the rights of others? Yes. Should we push the envelope until we are lying on the ground bleeding? Only in the most extreme cases and this is NOT an example of one.

Should law enforcement, and especial anyone in a leadership position within any department, office or bureau, know the letter of the law and know when restraint is not only wise, but needed? Yes.

Law enforcement officers need to be able to ensure they are safe in the performance of their jobs. If you are armed and failing to obey their commands, bad things are probably going to happen to you...and it will be on you in part, at the very least.

God bless the men and women who put on a uniform to protect We the People, regardless of the color of the uniform.
