CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, Army veteran and recent candidate for State Representative in District 55, along with a couple of other people was arrested yesterday in Olmos Park, TX (Bexar County). He was tazed and subsequently injured in that arrest with a head injury and was hospitalized. I was told that the head injury was a large gash on the back of the head. He also suffered numerous scrapes on his wrists and arms.

Grisham and crew were legally opening carrying pistols and long guns in response to an event last week when an Olmos Park police officer drew guns on and detained someone with a protest sign solely for the reason of open carrying a pistol (which turned out to be a training fake).

Grisham had a phone conversation with the Olmos Park Police Chief, Rene Valenciano about their policies, etc. in which the chief seemed entirely unconcerned with his officers illegally detaining people for a perfectly legal activity. (The conversation will be linked in the comments below).

Grisham and crew went to Olmos Park yesterday and were legally and peacefully open carrying and got arrested for it. There is a video of the arrest. There was no articulated probable cause for the arrest. The police showed up, including Chief Valenciano and ordered Grisham and his crew to the ground. Grisham at least refused. It was Valenciano that personally tazed and arrested Grisham.

Between the phone call and video from the site, it's very clear this was an illegal arrest by an oath breaking police officer and they will be held accountable.

In my opinion this has nothing to do with gun control it has nothing to do with the right or wrong idea of open carry it has nothing to do with the state of Texas. If a policeman and in this case the police chief don’t know the law and don’t follow it that’s a big problem and that’s what the story is about. I don’t get to decide whether the speed limit is right or wrong I’m obligated to Obey it. The police chief is obligated to enforce the laws as they are and not re-interpret them on his own personal whim. If he doesn’t know the law That is not qualified for his job

Police say they want respect, at least that's what I hear. If they continue harassing law abiding citizens, who will they look to for help when trouble really commences. I wasn't always like this but I am very leery of the police. Too nervous for my liking.

Normally I would support a police officer in the execution of their duties but, based on the circumstances alleged to be true, he needs to not only be trained better but probably needs to be fired for official oppression.

Police being held accountable? Cool story, bro. Let me know when that goes down.

Cops are not held accountable.

Conflicting feelings? For what? Even if you're anti-gun, If someone is obeying the law they should not be arrested, little own assaulted (if the arrest is illegal, then force used is assault)! I'm tired, to the point of being furious, of police officers who feel they are the arbiters of what is legal. I have enormous respect for the law enforcement community & the majority of them do their job very well! But recently there have been some that have arrested & or harrassed people demonstrating in defense of their Second Amendment rights, in a completely legal manner. Personally I believe the offending officers should not only be sued personally, but I think they should be criminally prosecuted for illegally detaining someone, which if done by anyone else would be called kidnapping.

I shared this over 2 years ago. At the time I didn't know enough about Texas gun laws. I've since educated myself, and been educated by people that live in Texas and said county. There is no more confusion on my part. People should really pay attention to how long a post has been up.

SSG Jeffrey Leake My apologies Sgt., (not for the content but for the timing). This is actually a learning opportunity for me. This thread was pushed to me through email by Rally Point. Whenever I get an email highlighting a thread, if I'm interested I comment, but I've never looked at the date. I've always just assumed that if it's being sent out like that, that it's new. But we all know what happens when one assumes! My bad.

SPC Brian Klotz I didn't know a lot about open carry in Texas two years ago. I also didn't know that there had been several other incidents in this county before this one. At the time, I was confused about who was right and who was wrong, as well as were they both at fault for what happened. Everything has since been cleared up for me. Anywhere from outside comments, to comments from people that have lived in that county.

Not being the the least funny sgt but we have been trying for a very long time why police decide to do what ever they want to any United states people and the worst of all I as a guy that grew up in a place and time where told the world what cops do and now they see it and still don't want to believe and not to mention the courts every cop is always right and we are wrong because we are not supposed to know the law thank God the army is a little different they always gave me a fair shot so all I can say is it has been this way a very long time
