I have just under 9 months until I ETS. If my unit comes down on deployment, would I be Stop/Lossed or be left in Rear-D to ETS on time?

I think stop loss is no longer in force so you would probably be left in rear detachment.

1. Depends on the length of the deployment. 2. Up to your chain of command as to which they do. 3. Under normal deployment standards- your unit and you would already know about a deployment and be in the train up stage,

I don't see what the big deal is, with being deployed after your ETS. Your pay won't stop, if your unit and Finance can change your ETS date before you deploy. If it does stop, life will suck for a while, but you will get "one big back-pay!" when you get back. Years ago, my brother was assigned to a stateside military hospital at Fort Ord (1985-88). They were so busy with day-to-day operations of the hospital and patents, they basically forgot about the soldier. He worked past his ETS by a few days, until he was informed by his Company 1SG, "Why are you still here?!" He was out-processed in a day and half. Back then, they had no TAP or SFL-TAP program.

If you have 9 months to ETS then you should have started the Soldier For Life Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP). Once you start that, nothing will pull you away from that unless you decide to reenlist. You should visit you local SFL-TAP center to find out when you can start the transition program. I think it is 1-2 years from retirement date and 6 months to 1 year for ETS.

depends on the needs of the army at the time, we had people at the airport ready to fly home.... they went and picked them up

You didn't get the memo? Stop loss hasn't been around for awhile. You'll be asked to extend to meet the duration of the deployment, if you are unable or unwilling, you'll either go and be back 90 days out to ets, or stay on rear d.

I suppose it's possible but I doubt it as they would have to cut your deployment orders for that timeframe. You should talk to your S-3 folks and they should be able to answer all these questions.

I doubt that the army is stop-lossing anyone these days. It has been a long time since I heard of a stop-loss.
