I have never once been to an Annual Training. Is the unit I'm attached to required to have an AT?

SSG(P) (Join to see) AR 140-1 para 3-17 defines AT requirements. The command can establish you as an exception under 3-20. If you have a dual status job, I have seen this happen quite often, but you need to remind your command that you must maintain your MOS skill. Use your chain of command and if getting nowhere, go to IG. Just remember to be respectful and asking an honest question. I am sure if you take this up the chain they will want to support your AT requirement.

To augments SFC's comment, the individual drilling reservist is not required to perform annual training to get a sat year. He/she can get a sat year by executing the 48 IDT periods. However, the unit will likely have to answer some questions if you have never used your allotted 14 days of AT orders. You, as a member of the select/active reserve, rate the chance to execute those 14 days and be paid for them. It's not your fault if the unit never scheduled them. If you haven't gone to some formal school or mobilization or some other periods of active duty in each of the past fiscal years, I recommend sending that up the chain.

You're asking two separate questions.
- Units have training dollars, and yes, in the Army Reserve, there is always an Annual Training "event."
- Whether you, personally, attend that AT is an entirely separate question.
During the Army Force Generation (ARFORGEN) cycle, the first year is about individual skill training -- unit personnel maximize opportunities to go to schools (basic, AIT, NCOES, special skills like HAZMAT certification, etc.). The second year has some of that, but more small team training. The year following, platoon/company level training, Year 4 company training/certification for deployment, Year 5 available for deployment/utilization.
During years when people aren't going to schools, there's usually a home station training where administrative and other training requirements get knocked out without going to a formal training site.
