I have the choice of either 15T or 15U in the Army. Which will be better in the long run, as in which will be around longer?

They’re both good MOS’s I chose 15T because we have more duty station options than 15Us

As far as which airframe will be around longer. I doubt the Army will get rid of either of them. The 47 is going to be a 100 year airframe. All 4 branches of the Military use the 60, and for good reason. It's a great aircraft, very versatile. If you enlisted today at 18 years old, and retired at the maximum age to serve of 62, both airframe will still be in service guaranteed

You have a lot more choices of Duty Stations as a T, but Chinooks have better missions IMO. 60 units are a Taxi service for high ranked collars, with 47's, you can get up, stretch your legs, take a piss without a hurricane seat pushing it all over you.

I went with Uniform, just because I prefer the larger and fastest helicopter in the planet.

As has been stated in the previous comments both jobs will be around for quite awhile and either will be a great choice. Make sure you think long term and invest in yourself in either job by getting an A&P license whether or not you intend to work in aviation when you get out or retire as well as other education. Make the most of your opportunities and they will pay off in the long run.

I was a 67U which is a CH-47 medium helicopter repairer. The Ch-47 has been around since Vietnam. This aircraft has had various upgrades. This airframe will continue to be around way after your service however long you decide to stay. I served in Germany for three year tour. I have to say it was one of my best enlistments and MOS’s have trained and been qualified in. I also deployed to Iraq in 03. There are also other options open to you being in aviation and a lot of cross training. Coming from the Combat Arms Airborne school of soldiering. Reclassify into this MOS was very rewarding. If you want to go overseas this is the best. As far as 60s I believe the Blackhawk will be around for the same amount of time.

Being that I'm a 15U, I side with the Chinook. Both airframes have unique mission sets and it really depends on what your ultimate goal winds up being. The Chinook has been flying in the Army since 1962 and the Blackhawk since 1979, neither of which have any plans on being retired in the foreseeable future. Ultimately it comes down for what your plan in the Army is and which airframe cators to that more. As a 15U, you're able to work on all the different airframes (albeit not that often) but 15T's can be stationed in a lot more places.

Pick the U if you want to always be working, the 15T might not carry as much but itcwas alot more fun to work on and crew
