I’m a 68C who wants to volunteer for recruiting duty. What’s the odds that I get selected?

I’ve started building my volunteer packet and I have a question. Like should I wait until exactly 12 months on station? Or can I drop it a month early?

Contact MSG Maawac at HRC. He is our proponent NCO that manages broadening assignments. [login to see] . It never hurts to ask.

I can't answer your question. What I will say is do what you think is right for you. I am a 68C in the reserves ( stuck in a 68w slot ) I was looking on a job board a couple of months ago and came across a job for a medical recruiter. They wanted a nurse with a lot of experience in recruitment. My hospital has a postition just like that. So basically think of where you are and what benefits you would get out of it and where you will see your self after. Recruiter duty.

I was DA select when I was a SSG 91C (now called 68C). That’s why I got out the first time, signed a declination.

Sir, so you were a LPN, got DA selected and signed a Dec, then came back in an officer? NICEEEEEE

Yes. Got out, worked as LPN for a while, went back in reserves, did ASN-RN, then BSN, came back active for anesthesia school and stayed in. I enjoyed my time as a Charlie though and probably would have stayed as that if I got an instructor slot at Ft Sam instead of DA select for recruiter.

You do you. I am also a 68C (first 8 years as a 68W and F2). I wanted to be a recruiter to be closer to home. I am very glad it did not work out. You will learn real quick that a lot of the converted 79R are idiots that think they know everything but they really don’t. They have spent so much time hanging out at the mall they forget what being a Soldier really is. If it’s what you really want though, don’t let anyone discourage you.

SFC, thanks for your input. I’m a M6, and I’ve quickly learned the Hospital is where soldiers careers go to die anyway! You know it’s true sarge! So what’s the difference?

lol as long as you qualify HIGH!!!! Instead of doing all of the difficult paperwork for volunteering for recruiting duty, why not contact your branch manager and have them put you on assignment?

Assignment for recruiter? Well if that’s your question, then my reply is because my understanding is Volunteer recruiters get their preference of station.

SSG (Join to see) - NOPE. I volunteered from Germany to get to San Antonio (which is where I'm from originally) and didn't get it. The closest thing I could get was Louisiana (which was NOWHERE in the scope of my request preferences). The REAL way it works is you'll talk to some NCO's that are in charge of manning and they will tell you what areas are available and you have to pick the Battalion you want from there (which is risky lol) and to put it in perspective, our BN covers LA, MS, and part of TN. I'm just lucky that I got a large center in a high population area that's reasonably close to home.

Ok ok, thank you for putting things into perspective for me. I’d really enjoy anywhere in Colorado. If not there then anywhere in Texas/Cali!

SSG (Join to see) - Almost EVERY high school kid says they want to be a nurse... you're the living truth of that possibility. Yes, you will be successful lol

He was better than average. You have superstars, duds, and the average. He was better average. Even if he wasn't a good recruiter, he had the skillset (and cool bag of medical gear) to get kids excited and get those assist points. You can draw in people with your skillset but another recruiter may connect with the person. In the end you guys team up and share the win.
