I'm all for restructuring BCT. That being said I don't know why water survival is being added. Why now??

Well this should be interesting. Half these bums can't even climb a rope. I did have a collegiate swimmer, so maybe there is hope. What's the point though? They aren't gonna kick them out if they can't do it, are they? Is it mandatory training?

It is mandatory. My big question is why???? Been in a long time and I have never did water training. I think theres more important things we could be doing. Not to mention the drill sergeants don't even conduct the training. I don't know. Still defending LOL

Ehhh I might be done with my trail time before I get to see it. I wrote a letter to the Chief of the Infantry to mandate female drills take a version of Infantry AIT to gain basic Infantry knowledge. As you can imagine I got no response.

if i learned anything from water survival is that a surprising number of people in the army cant swim... and the sooner you can teach folks to float in an emergency is probably the better.

A lot of people in the Army can't swim. It's always been that way. How long was water survival training? One day? I just think it was an odd addition to BCT. Maybe drowning deaths have gone up. I'll have to look into that. Did you do Peer Evals while you were in BCT???

SFC (Join to see) Don't quite remember all the facts from BCT, was a little bit ago.. but didn't do water survival training in Basic and I've only done it once in the 5 years since then. Maybe they are trying to get in done in BCT to avoid people being in the army for years before they receive their initial training on the matter.

I've been in since 1998. Never once have I been in a pool. Oh well, as long as its good training I'm all for it.

I think its a good idea. Officers have done it for years. Being a former Marine I'm comfortable in the water. Plus who was responsible for the largest amphibious assault? That's right its a mother tool in the tool box!

I get that. As a drill sergeant though I have not been through any water survival training. Probably wont either.

While they should take you through some training normally they have SMEs cover this sort of training. I know when I was in the Corps we has cadre that's was at the pool just like we do for say First Aid now.
