I'm looking for a new "B" name to replace Banshee Company. What do you think would be a good name for this company?

I need ideas! I'm taking Command soon of Banshee Company (tank), 1-37 AR, 2/1 AD at Ft. Bliss, and I learned the Soldiers really don't like the name. I have the opportunity to change it, but it has to be something unique because it must be different from any other "B" Company in III Corps. I need ideas! Thanks!

I can understand why they didn't like it, since it is a female term. In Irish it is Bean Sidhe = Woman of the fairy mound. Want to stay Irish? I suggest Balor, he was a villain type from Irish mythology. There are two variations of his name. Balor Balcbéimnech (Balor the strong smiter) and Balor Birugderc (Balor of the piercing eye). The latter has led to the English name Balor of the Evil Eye.

Another possibility is to choose something that doesn't start with the letter "B". A Co in 1-6, 2/1 is Gunfighters. That was the name in the unit had in Vietnam and our 1SG wanted to keep it. Then at Bragg I was in a different A Co and we were the Legion.

Whoa! If there is a time to go slow this is it. What is the historical significance of the name? Is it pure hyperbole or is a heroic history behind the name? The first step in problem solving is making a determination of issue. Do you need to change...why...what will be impact...what about the past unit members...etc.. When we take our first command we want to effect change, that's normal. My experience though is : Don't change anything unless it is crucial. Watch, learn, listen, evaluate, include and act? By the way there was a WW II Tank Destroyer, built by Buick. Perhaps there is some provenance? Then again the Company B "Buttheads" would be a terrible change.

There is no historical significance of the name. The unit just stood back up 2 years ago. Before that it was Bulldogs. Neither have any real significance, and based off Soldiers' feedback they want a change.
