Is your mother your dependant in DEERS? If so, that would help.

Exceptions are made all the time for guys deploying. Talk to your readiness NCO, then 1SG, then commander. It will probably have to go to at least the BDE level, maybe higher. Transparency is the key and keeping them inundated with info. It doesn't hurt to present them a plan as soon as you ask with a timeline. That will give the impression that you are legitimately wanting to deploy; you just need to tie up some loose ends first.

1SG Al Brown - wish I could. DFAS requires I provide >50% of her income. Other than the mobile home and odds and ends that I provide, her primary income is SSI/Disability and SNAP/Food Stamps so she can't qualify as a Dependent for me.

SSG (Join to see) - you should tabulate everything you spend on her to see. I know she's mom; but if you can get her as a dependent it will make life easier. The cost of her housing would negate any disability she receives I believe. SNAP shouldn't count as income for DEERS purposes.

Just something to look at in the future. It can also help on taxes and her healthcare.

Hi SSG Connery
Yes you still can make her your secondary dependent although she receives the benefits you named. I did he same thing for my mother. You can message me at [login to see] if you wanna discuss... SSG (Join to see) -

SSG (Join to see) - I'm definitely going to call my DEERS office Monday for more information on this. Especially after I get her moved in I'll be providing a lot more in tangible financial help which will be easier to document

Thanks everyone. I've discussed everything with my Unit Ministry Team and decided to go forward with a memorandum to my CO Command Staff notifying them of the circumstances, plan of action, and my request. Hopefully, the CMD will understand that this move will make me more available for future deployments and allow me to be a fully mission capable leader, and I will still be an option for this current deployment as a late-deployer.
