Look at Long County, I lived in Ludowici during my time at Fort Stewart and loved it. Short commute to gate 7.

We have been looking their also. It's out in the country alittle bit and would enjoy that.

SPC Bo Walker - If you like hunting and fishing it is a fine area. And property tax is dirt cheap.

I was on post at Stewart for 3 years. It was OK for us. But the caveat is: we had awesome neighbors for the most part. It's really a personal preference thing. On post is super convenient, while the privacy and solitude of being out in the country has its merit too. Go with your gut, and do what you think is best.
The other side of that is this: nothing is set in stone. Housing as well as most rental agreements are a year max, so if you feel you make the wrong choice and there's nothing you can legally do to get out of your lease, you only have to stick it out for a year, and you can move.

I'm PCSing there too and we are looking at Richmond Hill. Great schools and about 30 to 45 minute drive.

If you have kids Richmond Hill is the best. The schools are 9's.

We dont have kids but have heard alot of great things about Richmond Hill, just the commute would be alittle to far for myself.

Richmond Hill is a great middle ground location between Stewart and Savannah. There are also a lot of small towns around the area with decent home prices if you don't mind the commute. I still own a home in Glennville, Ga

The only way I'd ever go back is if I'm reenacting General Sherman's march and burning my way from Benning to Savannah.
