Your TIS is calculated using your time on Active duty. If you are in the Guard or reserves, your active time is calculated off of active duty orders for training or mobilization. In most cases, your weekend drill does not count as active service. You can go to finance, have them give you a printout of your drill time, some may be coded as active. Find your BN Career Counselor, they will be able to calculate your active time.

Ok here's the deal. I enlisted in the guard in 04/14 and went active 11/15. I currently have 28 months TIS I was thinking that I should of got my E4 in April with and automatic promotion but my s1 is telling me I have to wait two years from the date I went active. I'm just trying to get my E4 without waiting until 2017

TIS is service is just that - total time served - active, guard or reserve - I did a little over 5 years active duty, had a ten year break then went into the guard - and completed 22 years, 11 months and xx days - service. Now if you are looking at Time in Rank - that is another story - time in rank starts over when you switch branches - Navy to Army, Army to Air Force, etc. Your LES and personnel documents will show several times - Pay entry date - can include delayed entry time, active duty time, sea duty, combat duty, etc. For the guard to get a good retirement year, you have to earn 50 points - but if you do earn the 50 points then that year counts as a year of service just like active and reserve duty. Now if you want to talk pay - that is another animinal - AD get day for day pay, Guard - gets 4 days pay for a 2 day drill weekend and then day for day when in a training status or on AD orders. Reserve - is a day for day like AD, but they have to do 24 days of duty a year to be considered having a good year. You need to go to your personnel flight and speak with them to calculate you time in service, time in rank, etc.
