I want to completely change my military career. Do you have any advice on reclassifying from an Engineering to a Medical MOS?

SGT (Join to see) join the Army Reserves too ;-)
I had a 12N reclass to 68W and he was a great asset to the unit. He knew how 75% or more of the unit did their job and their requirements and likely injuries. This helped him to know what to plan to treat and he was great at both MOSs.

Some of the 68 series MOSs have very lucrative certifications that you earn during the school. 68V, 68D, 68L, 68P come to mind. But here’s the other side of the coin: it is very difficult to get promoted in these MOSs. You will have to max PT, weapons, college, etc to move up and it gets even more competitive at the senior ranks. Many 68 series (who work in the hospital) have bachelors degrees, and many have MS degrees too (I’m working on mine now).
But getting into another MOS is just spinnin’ Your wheels, IMO. Get that degree, then cross over to the dark side and make some real

Talk to your retention and see what they can do for you. If you are not in your reenlistment window you can request for a voluntary reclass. Check the link below and view the hyperlink "Milper message 17-296". It list all MOS's open for reclass including the medical field. Read through it and it will explain how the reclass process works. Your retention can explain to your more of this process. However, there is a new Milper message that was put out on the 19th of jan and takes effect today but HRC hasn't posted it on the reenlistment site yet. So there may be a few changes to it. Retention can get you the updated version. Good luck to you.

Reclassification Opportunities
An awarded MOS, especially the PMOS, represents significant time and effort, both to the Army and the Soldier. Theneeds of the Army will be the overriding factor in reclassification actions.

Four years ago, I joined the engineer corps as a plumber. When I started, I absolutely loved it. The people I worked with, getting to work with my hands... But now, I realize that I have no passion for it. My unit doesn't do plumbing projects, so I am forced to learn other MOS skills that I have no interest in . Even though I have become proficient in my units other MOS ( 12R-Electrician, 12W-Carpentry masonry) I don't enjoy it. Like I said, I enjoy the people I work with and I enjoy being a team leader, but I would take a demotion to be doing something that I am actually passionate about. I would much rather be a medic or something related. My question is this: how do I go about reclassing and what kind of 68 series MOS are out there

Here is the list of all Medical MOS's. Bear in mind that those listed include Officer and Enlisted. As for reclassing, you first need to find out if your current MOS is allowing people to reclass out based on the In/Out Call. If you are able to reclass out, all you really need to do is contact your Retention NCO to see if you qualify for what ever Medical job your are interested in. Then you can request a reclass packet to be submitted.....or re-enlist for that particular Medical MOS......or both. Your Retention NCO will know exactly what steps you will need to do. But first and foremost, see if you can even reclass out.
