I was discharged during Infantry OSUT, but it’s looking like I’m eligible for re-enlistment. No combat roles since I’d have to go reserves, but I’m mostly looking at 31B or 68W (military police or combat medic).

I recommend you to go talk with a recruiter to at least find out if the jobs you want to pursue are even an option for you. If they are, chose the one you have the most passion for not the one that’ll help you fast track. In order to benefit, thrive, and be fulfilled, you must pick/select a career field that’s dear to you. Good luck to you...

You need to go to a recruiter. You will need to find out what kinds of units are in your area and if those units have slots available. Most units require at least 1 68W, so you may have more luck there. What you don't want to do is get yourself stuck on a certain MOS goal just to find out that there are no units with that MOS near you. Having said that, if you are not tied down, an option may be to relocate to a region that as the MOS and slots you desire.

Both are good fields to pursue.

31B helps prepare you for physical security, personal security, non (or less) lethal training and similar civilian positions. It can also prepare you for similar cross fields like 31D CID if you have the degree & are able to meet the other requirements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX3_cRkbdWQ

68W on the other hand would prepare you for something in the realm of paramedics on the civilian side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PdimHHqJ-4&t=13s

Also consider the travel distance from your home to the unit's location.

*Note* These videos are geared more towards active duty, but should have relevant information either way.

So what's gonna be the outcome this time? You did not say why you were discharged. I would reflect and ponder if the military is right for you. Choosing an MOS is very serious and you can end up like many of my MP and Medic Service Member friends I served with..who saw and experienced great horrors and are now shells of their former selves. It was always fun and games in the Reserves and in a blink of an eye their lives were changed forever...I was in a med hold unit and saw 1000's rotating in... for most it was the end of the line for their careers some left in flag drapped boxes. Mostly these Veterans are kept out of sight and you can view them at any VA hospital.

That's very subjective. You need to choose which one is hot right now and interests you.

You need to speak to a recruiter to find what your MOS options are in a reserve or guard unit. There is a difference between reserves and national guard -speak with both recruiters and educate yourself on what those differences are. Don’t forget your state also has an air guard unit as well, so going blue may be an option also.

Brandon Caguyong You need to make sure your ASVAB scores are high enough to get into either one of those MOSes. 31B is 110. Don't know what the minimum score for 68W is.

I scored an 82, my scores aren’t an issue. Just looking for what will benefit me more in civilian life
