I was discharged in 2001 because of medical problems and I still want to serve by helping veterans or something else. What can I do?

I am not a veteran because I was only on active duty for training. I'm not sure how to classify myself on rallypoint. I tried to go off my meds and get back in as a chaplain in 2003 but I got sick and had to be hospitalized.

For your RP profile I believe civilian supporter is appropriate.
As to how to help... If there is a USO in your area they can always use help. Otherwise contact a vet outreach group in your area and offer to volunteer.

Cadet SFC Rev. David Doellinger
I know I did not earn the title veteran. I think there should be another category on rallypoint. Some people consider cadets to be civilians. When I contracted for 8 years of service I took an oath to defend the constitution with my life. I didn't know I wasn't under UCMJ. I wasn't aware of the difference. When I was at jump school at Fort Benning I followed orders just like the 11B privates and West Point Cadets. I showed rallypoint a picture of my military ID and diploma from airborne school to become verified. Will that and my rank go away if I change my profile to civilian?

Cadet SFC Rev. David Doellinger - Its kind of a Yes / NO situation.
Are you a current Military service member?..YES ? NO?
Are you a current Cadet in any military branch program.. YES? NO?
Are you a Retired member of any branch of service .. YES? NO?
Are you a military member (someone who completed initial entry training basic and AIT) of any branch that was separated from service..YES? NO?
Form what you have posted so far I believe the answer to all of those is NO, as such, Civilian supporter is the correct title for your profile.. Please change that as soon as convenient. Thanks.

As a pastor, you have a challenging, rewarding and important mission right in front of you I'd wager.
Make your congregation a welcoming place for veterans; possibly reach out to any in your community who may wish to develop groups to help. What do transitioning troops need? Simple; a place where they can build relationships with people...that interaction being a critical part of engaging in their new place in life. Seek ways to aide the homeless...there are multitudes of people on the streets who once served, and now need to be served towards finding their way back from the brink.
