I will be heading to Fort Sam Houston for a reclass to 68c and was wondering is this mos basically the same as a 68w?

68W Combat Medic. Mostly Field

Used to be when I was running medics through AIT at Ft Sam, you went to 68W first to learn the basics and at a certain point we sent you up the hill to what we called Charlie school. If you didn't make it through the 68C course you already had the 68W training so you would be just thrown in to that MOS. I was a Flight Medic myself. Best job ever. Good luck to you.

1. They overlap in some ways - assessments, paperwork, meds administration, etc.
2. Medics focus on field medicine and so (unfortunately) a lot of in depth management education is lacking for them. 68C goes much more in depth into clinical management. Pharmacology, using various equipment and procedures associated with them (foleys, PICC/central lines, etc.) are all relevant skill areas for LPNs. Patient hygiene, changing specialty dressings, and education are also significant parts of the job too.
3. Although LPN is a separate MOS, know that LPNs will get used like medics in the role 1 and 2 settings. Our Charlies were treated like the medics were we brushed hem up on the dirty field medicine stuff and they helped with a lot of clinical stuff for our guys.
