If a Marine MOS converts to a Navy Rating can I still choose a different rating? If it doesn't convert can I choose any rating I qualify for?

I'm a bit confused, what does the Marine MOS have to do with anything? Yes you can choose any rating you qualify for, but you may have to wait to get it. Some people settle for other ratings, even joining in one of the apprenticeships to go to boot camp sooner.

Sorry, yeah, I was unclear. I meant that if a Marine wanted to join the Navy after his enlistment is up, and let's say he was an electrician, would he only be able to have the Navy's equivalent (electrician's mate) or can he choose any rating he qualifies for?
