I was in the national guard for 6 years and reserves for 2. I fell through the cracks promotion wise. If I reenlisted and went active duty after being out for two years would I get credit for the 8 years I served?

Credit for what?
You'll receive credit for pay for all 8 years. You'll receive credit for active duty retirement for your active duty time such as Basic, deployments, and AT. You'll receive credit for time in grade for your rank if you came straight from the reserves, otherwise your date of rank will be the day you entered active duty.
