Actually FRU is Focused Readiness Unit. Basically, it is to prepare units for mobilization with shorter notice than a 1 year NOS (Notice of Sourcing). It ensures that unit readiness is increased, to include personnel, equipment, load plans, etc. It is part of ARNG 4.0. There is no data on actuality of deployment, but I tell my Soldiers that it is better to spend the time to be prepared and end up not going than to be unprepared when mobilized. Just ensure that your families and employers are fully aware and prepared in the case that you actually get deployed.

That depends on whether or not TSHTF. A Guard unit would most likely cover down for an Active unit that got tasked to go elsewhere if something popped off. My unit in AL is an FRU as well.

How long have you been FRU? We just got our designation and we’re going through all the getting ready steps and I’m assuming it’s because of rising tensions with Korea?

Same here. And yes, that's likely the reason. Everyone has their knickers in a knot about NK around here lol
