Sooo...I'm in a debate with someone. If an officer and senior NCO walks into the room at the same time, lets say: (barracks room inspection) Who do you acknowledge?

Who is higher ranking SSG (Join to see)?
A 2LT by regulations outranks the SMA, with that being said, you would call the room to attention for the officer.
That is unless you're unit has put out anything different, that states you would call at ease.
If unsure, you cant go wrong with following regulations, or ask the leadership for clarification/confirmation.

When I was a 1LT, I was in the MP station after PT one morning, still in PTs, and some SGM comes in. PVT Snuffy at the desk calls the room to at ease. I just kept going about my business. SGM loses it and jumps my shit, "what's your problem soldier?". I just smiled and said, "My problem, SGM, is that officers don't stand at ease for NCOs". He apologized and then proceeded to smoke the ever living shit out of PVT Snuffy. That was in 2005 and I think that poor guy is still doing pushups.

WO1 John C. - The funny part is PVT Snuffy did know I was an officer. I was an MP and had been in the MP station every morning for 5-6 months. The kid was just a chucklehead..

I guess the SGM miss the day in class where if you do not know the person's rank, treat them as if they were senior. Hell I call my company commander Sir and we have a great relationship.
