If I just went through MEPS and did the physical, why do I have to do a PHA if I was good enough to get in the military?

The PHA is a military requirement for pre and post deployment and has nothing to do with MEPs physicals which are entry exams.

I understand but if I physically able to join the military then why not being able to deploy if I just got back in!

There are a lot of different things that you have to do and it is not up to you to question it. They own you. You took an oath. Now you have to do what they want at any time and any moment.

Soldiers are required to assess their physical and behavioral health before and after deployment. Deployment health assessments are taken in three phases throughout the deployment cycle. Each assessment consists of resilience training, an electronic questionnaire, and an interview with a health care professional.

SGT Eric Davis correct, it wasn't meant to be in depth. Glad you were able to get it knocked out.

I didn’t have a problem doing it but if I just had got back in the military then next week needed a pha it just was crazy. I’ll do whatever i need to do but it was just a waste of resource and thank you!1SG (Join to see)

SGT Eric Davis it won't be the last crazy, or perceived waste of resources you'll experience.

The PHA is the key process for assessment and maintenance of the currency of IMR using DD Form 3024. The PHA is used to:
Identify duty limiting and deployment limiting conditions, fulfill the required annual mental health assessment, monitor and guide military personnel in the area of preventive health screening and education
screen for currency of occupational medical examinations and other health assessments.

PHA is a yearly assessment. It is a mandatory check the box requirement your command has to do to deploy you. It has nothing to do with your MEPs medical exam.

I understand that it’s a checkbox but at the same time I just enlisted and if I wanted medically fit for duty I wouldn’t be able to join!!
Also other soldiers couldn’t get orders to deploy cause they wasn’t fit and I got orders!

MEPS and PHA cover entirely different medical areas. Being medically fit to enlist is not the same as being mentally fit to deploy.

SPC Casey Ashfield ok I did my PHA and didn’t get blood work or Vision done but they say that’s all I needed; is that correct?

SGT Eric Davis - Vision, blood work, and other medical checks may be the only stages you can skip because you just went through MEPS. It all depends on how accurately your physicals were recorded in (MEDPROS?) while you were at your processing station. Check with your medical staff and your friendly neighborhood 68W to make sure.

you have to do the PHA before and after deployment. You may be coming to relieve us but I am only guessing. .

PHA is annual. PDHA is before deployment, PDHRA is after deployment (before you actually redeploy and 30 days after, and 90 days after)

we had to do both the PHA and PDHA. I also had to do the PHA the same year I enlisted..just the way it is

When I served in the Air Force I had to get physically and mentally cleared before any mission. Everyday you have different challenges and they just want to make sure you are ready at that moment to be on your toes and ready for any challenge.

MEPS is "Military ENTRANCE Processing Station" whereas PHA is "Periodic HEALTH Assessment". These two have absolutely nothing to do with the other. You passed MEPS to come back into the military, good for you. Now you have to have an annual PHA from AMEDD per regulatory guidance and requirement.

In The Navy resilience training was not required for any of my four deployement. Maybe different in the Army.

Lol I started to read that but I’ll have to read all that later cause it’s a lot. Also if they talking about being ready then if I wasn’t ready I wouldn’t have been able to join again. Obviously I’m medically fit or there was not point in getting back in

If you’ve really been in 7 years I can’t understand why YOU can’t understand Big Green making you do something like this. The military thrives on this shit. I was in ANG and worked as a civilian for the army and had to do Cyber Awareness at each job less than two weeks apart. It’s a milder, everyday version of SNAFU; Situation Normal, Doesn’t Make Sense.
