I just recently got to my new duty station and they didn't have any space at the barracks as it was being renovated so I got non dependent BAH . I have a place off post and a pet, would my leadership be able to make me move back into the barracks or would I be able to stay off post as I have all my furniture and a pet. And if I were to have to move into the new barracks what would happen to all my stuff and my pet.

It's a little more complicated than just grabbing people and pulling them back on base. Your CNA is only good for a year, which is how long your lease should be. If there is barracks space available your post commander will be required to fill that. When they start filling the barracks it will usually be with incoming Soldiers first. Then Soldiers who have expiring CNAs. This is not a command driven decision, who is authorized BAH and under what circumstances is tightly controlled by DFAS

if you have the "non availability" memo, then you should be fine. Do not give them a reason to yank you back into the Barracks when renovations are complete. Speaking truthfully though, when renovations are complete, and there is room available, they CAN yank you back, as BAH for a single soldier under the rank of SSG is wasteful spending when housing is provided and available, at no additional cost to the Army.

Thank you for the response i am at a small detachment at fort belvoir, they have very little military personnel at this installation and the people in my detachment have lived offpost since 2017. I was informed by a team leader that they would be moving people back into the barracks starting january of this year but i got here after that and got my CNA which is the non availability memo you spoke of. Im hoping i wont go back as i see no reason for it to happen, nobody in the detachment has ever had problems with rent or showing up late or anything so i see no reason they would send us back other than the barracks are going to be livable again. if this provides any more insight into the matter and if that would change what you think would happen please let me know. Thank again SSG.

PFC (Join to see) - It wholly depends upon your actions (do not give them a reason to) and what guidance the installation Commander receives from their Chain of Command. You could do everything right, but if some bean counter in finance points out that barrack space is available, why are all these single Sergeants and below getting BAH mentions it to their Commanders, scrutiny will force command to pull you back in. and they will do so by lowest rank first. Your CNA is valid only if there is no available space, and Command can revoke it when space comes available. I am giving you the truth of your situation, and I suggest to always plan for the worst case scenario, this way all surprises are pleasant.

If you received a statement of non-availability and were approved to move to an off post residence, then you should be fine. Now, if you give them a reason to yank you back to base....and there is room available...then yes they can.

That being said, you really need to speak with your Chain of Command/Support to get specific guidance about this. As for your furniture and pet....if told you have to move back on base into the barracks, you will need to either sell or store all of your goods that you can't fit into the barracks room. As for the pet....your options are to re-home.....or to re-home. No pets allowed in the barracks.

On the note about pets, unfortunately SFC Livingston is correct. However, I strongly recommend having a "Plan B" or "Plan C" in the event that this happens.

"Plan B" would be what SFC Livingston said, rehome.

"Plan C" if you want to keep your pet(s), check nearby community (or communities) to see if they have some kind of program where once you are off duty, you can visit your pet. When you ETS (or other situation) you can then take your pet(s) with you to your designated home of address.

As a last resort, you could see if there is a friend/family member that would be willing to keep your pet(s) as a temporary basis until you ETS (or again other situation).

The saying goes, always have an emergency plan, regardless of ANY situation. Situations can happen for any reason for any thing at anytime with little or no notice at all.
