If I take off my ACU top to don my motorcycle jacket, do I have to put back on the full uniform if I dismount for a quick store run?

CPT (Join to see) You are allowed to wear apropret safety gear while operating the motorcycle, you are not authorized to alter the uniform components if not riding...it is as black and white as that.
I carried my helmet, jacket and backpack for most of thirty years from building to bike..including when i was a company 1SG and parked 30 feet from MY building ...If i can do it, so can my SM.
I carried my gear when I was the 1st CAV G3 SGM and I parked in assigned parking feet from the door..I had a RFID card to open.... no one would have seen me for the most part, and only handful of folks had the rank or position say something if they did..but if it was right for me to do, it was right for others to do.... so i carried my gear.
The world is not going to stop turning if you jump off your bike and take 10 steps to your office front door.. so if there is an emergency, do what needs to be done... but those same ten steps ... you can set a visual standard that rules, policies and regulations are for everyone..and in my opinion, the small inconvenience to you is outweighed by the larger good you do by taking it off after dismounting and carrying it.

SSG (Join to see) - SGM Erik Marquez Y'all have both covered this question exactly spot on. I parked on the sidewalk almost exactly 10 feet from the EOD Shop nearly every day and did exactly that, took my lid off and put my cover on, for no other reason than making sure I both followed the spirit of the regs, and showed anyone who might see me that it is important to do so. That was a longggg sentence! LOL

It is called integrity, Doing the right thing when no is looking. Remember, you are a reflection of your self and what you do or don't do may impact your reputation. Once damaged, a reputation is difficult to recover. Semper Fi.

SGM, for the most part you are spot on. Right is right and wrong is wrong, whether anyone is watching or not. You are correct in that it is only authorized for wear while operating your motorcycle.
However, I am sure there were plenty more than just a handful of folks who could have or were in the position to say anything had you chose to wear your PPE from your bike to the building. That mentality is part of what is wrong with today's leaders. GMA is GMA, and regardless of your rank if you are wrong and a correction is made and done so tactfully then you need to fix yourself.

You read something into my post I didn't write
I never said I passed people who could have made a correction but were not "allowed to"
I said there weren't many people available to make a correction....you misunderstood what I was trying to say .
My parking spot to my point of access might allow 1 to 5 people in total to see me in a given day
That means they were only a handful of people of the 450,000 on fort hood at the time who could have made a correction I did not say nor imply rank had anything to do with it
I have no problem with the young soldier noticing a uniform malfunction and politely making a correction in fact I'd rather have that young soldier do it then I would one of my senior leaders.
The first helps build initiative morale and leadership traits of a young soldier and ensures I don't walk past the division commander with something sticking out of my pocket my trouser leg unbloused or bootlaces hanging down
The second just means a three-star general has to tell me to tuck my boot laces in ... I'd prefer that not happen. ( actually I would've preferred to notice it myself but barring that I'd rather have the young private notice then the Chief of Staff )

Short answer No it is not authorized and the regs state it, as it was mention before if you do it you're setting a presidence for other Soldiers that you mite lead to do the wrong thing as well.
